Worked example
250 W is 0.25 kW. Running for 8 hours uses 0.25 × 8 = 2.00 kWh. At 26.32p per kWh that costs 52.6p.
Eight hours a day, every day, comes to £191.61 a year. Running it for half the time, with the humidistat doing the work, would save about £95.80.
How to cut the cost
Set the humidistat to around 50 to 60 per cent rather than the lowest setting, keep doors and windows closed in the room, and clear the filter. Drying washing in a small closed room with a dehumidifier can cost less than a tumble dryer, but check against the tumble dryer page.
